If you’re a shopping enthusiast, you head to Fifth Avenue in New York City. If you’re an avid mountain climber, you dream about scaling Mt. Everest and Kilimanjaro. If you’re a kitesurfing fanatic, you go to Saint Lucia. According to Kitesurfing Magazine, Saint Lucia has “some of the strongest, most consistent winds in the Caribbean.” Whether you’re a novice kite surfer or a seasoned veteran, there’s no better place to get your kitesurfing on than at Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa in Saint Lucia.
For the Newbies
Coconut Bay guests who are more than eight years of age, receive a free introductory kitesurfing lesson which we call a “taster.” During the taster, you will fly a trainer kite on the beach to get a feel for the sport. Afterward, one of our certified instructors will treat you to a guided, kitesurfing joyride across the waves.
Our guests 16 and older, have the option of taking lessons with one of our certified kitesurfing experts. After successfully completing our taster course, most students need about 10 hours of instruction to feel confident going out solo. Usually, our coaches can have you trained in about five days. You will even get an International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO) certification card once you complete the course!
Intermediate to Advanced Surfers
For those with more advanced skill levels, Coconut Bay’s water sports complex won’t disappoint. We offer rentals of top-of-the-line equipment that even the professionals will appreciate.
More advanced surfers will want to be a bit more adventurous. For your own safety, our instructors will notify you of designated kitesurfing areas. Where ever you go, though, you are guaranteed breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. Bruce Johnston, president of Silent Sports Marine Ltd., one of the largest wind sports retailers, is certainly a fan of kitesurfing at Coconut Bay.
When to Plan Your Kitesurfing Vacation
Kitesurfing is a seasonal sport, and Saint Lucia’s prime time is usually November through April when you can expect wind speeds to average 20 to 25 knots. Our official kitesurfing season is the first of November to the first of June. We encourage you to check out or download a kitesurfing adventure, and you’ll understand why!
There is an additional fee for lessons and equipment, and reservations are required. However, you can take advantage of our Surf and Stay packages for a more all-inclusive experience. Make new friends and have the time of your life at Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa. We work continuously to ensure that we are considered to be the ultimate destination for your kitesurfing adventures.
