March kicks off a special time of year at Saint Lucia: sea turtle nesting season! Just like our guests, these marvelous marine animals travel miles to our sandy shores — they wouldn’t go anywhere else.
As sea turtles swim ashore to lay eggs, our team is careful to make sure the process is safe for the animals. Here’s how you can get a glimpse of some of the coolest turtles in the sea, right on the beach at Coconut Bay.
Invite Kids to Learn About Sea Turtle Nesting
If you and your kids love turtles, then check out the CocoLand Kidz Club SCOUTS program during your visit. Through crafts and activities, kids learn about the sea turtle life cycle, conservation efforts, and different species that visit our island. All activities are tailored to different age groups, so there’s always something age-appropriate to help you learn.
There are three species of endangered sea turtles that nest on Saint Lucia: the Leatherback, the Hawksbill and the Green sea turtle.

Visitors of all ages appreciate these special animals and make a point to visit during nesting and hatching seasons. We offer beach walks from March to November where guests can learn about the different nests and the steps we take to protect them.
Starting in the fall around October, you can catch a glimpse of the baby turtles making their way to the ocean. They’re a fantastic sight to behold as the next generation of sea turtles touch the sea for the first time and take off on the adventure that awaits them.
