When you finally get the chance to come experience the beauty of Saint Lucia with us here at Coconut Bay, you want to make sure you get the absolute most from your trip. And, if you’re a first-time visitor, what better source of advice on how to travel with us than past guests!
That’s why we asked our previous guests to weigh in on social media in response to the questions: “Have you been to Saint Lucia before? If so, what are your top travel tips that you would give to someone who was visiting for the first time?” Here’s what our guests had to say.
TGIF: Travel from NYC on a Friday to Save Big
“Thank God it’s Friday” isn’t just a celebration of the upcoming weekend anymore — it also means the cheapest flights to Saint Lucia! A lot of our guests choose New York City (either JFK or EWR airport) for their connecting flight to us. If that’s possible, we recommend booking your flight on a Friday.
Depending on the time of year, Friday flights to Saint Lucia out of NYC can be up to hundreds of dollars cheaper than flights on other days of the week. You sometimes also get good discounts by booking Saturday flights. Generally, though, Friday flights can be up to about $100 cheaper than Saturday flights. So TGIF and save!
The Best Way to See Saint Lucia? From the Water
Katrina Lisa, a former guest of ours, commented on Facebook that the best advice she and her travel companion got during their stay with us was “the best way to see Saint Lucia is from the water.” Katrina makes an excellent point in that a lot of our beautiful landmarks, such as the Pitons and our coastline, are best seen from the ocean and not land.
For this reason, we offer a variety of sea tours for our guests, including our romantic sunset cruise, which will take you right by the Pitons in Soufriere. Toni Burnidge, another former guest and friend of ours on Facebook recommends our catamaran trip to the Pitons—she said she’ll never forget the beautiful harbor she saw. We also offer a Piton sail and snorkel trip if you’d like to see the sights under the sea as well as above it! Great tip, Katrina.
You’re Never too Old to Make a “Splash”
Katrina also recommended that you try the water slides at CocoLand Waterpark, the island’s largest, no matter how old you are. Splash, in addition to feature a 1,500-foot lazy river, also features three thrilling water slides.
A guest favorite is the Coconut Canon, a fully enclosed slide that is also our fastest. The Coconut Canon will shoot you down through our waterfall before you land in our plunge pool, only to want to do it all over again, we’re sure! One thing all of our guests on Facebook agreed on: don’t forget sunscreen! Lisa Lepage recommends bringing lots of it so you can soak up all the Saint Lucian sun that you want.
Don’t Miss out on our Excursions
One of our future visitors, Monica Johns, asked the group on Facebook what excursions they would recommend. Chris Henry, a former guest, recommended a land tour Coconut Bay offers called “The Soufriere Experience,” which is a five-hour tour. This is a private tour for up to four guests, which means you get to dictate how long you spend at each stop.
The scenic drive will take you down Saint Lucia’s west coast to Soufriere, home to the only drive-through volcano in the world, as well as the Botanical Gardens and Diamond Waterfalls. You might want to take a swim in one of the waterfalls, so be sure to bring your bathing suit!
While we loved all of our former guests’ answers to our “top travel tips” question, we have to say that our favorite suggestion came from Colleen Larabie: “Make sure you stay at Coconut Bay!” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Colleen! Thanks to all our guests, former and future, for participating in the discussion online. We hope to see you soon!
